Wrong Knowledge (with video)

By Gavin Davies

Live analog techno with 3 drum machines

The emotion behind the track

Tonight, we prayed for our kids as they go back to school that they’ll be protected from wrong knowledge. Solomon wrote that “the fear of the lord is the beginning of knowledge” - Proverbs 1:7. Without a worldview that there is a creator to whom we are morally accountable, collapse is inevitable; it’s hubristic to pretend otherwise, as the human heart is deceitful. Hence the title.

The sound behind the track

I was just jamming around and figured “hey I don’t think I need any synths here, the drums are carrying the track”. I don’t think I’ve done that before but I’ve seen guys like Dirtbox and Jeff Mills absolutely rock a single drum machine so it can be done!

I don’t know if I was getting peaking; I can’t tell on iMovie on the iPad, especially as I opened the filter on the RD9’s kick.

The gear behind the track

I combined all my analog drum machines - RD6, RD8 and RD9 - and sequenced all of them using my Squarp Pyramid. I performed the piece by simply switching tracks on and off live on the Pyramid, with a few tweaks on the RD9’s filter and snare pitch.
