Watching, staring, unblinking
At the screen without actually thinking,
Becomes a duty, a worship
Has reached out and tightened its grip,

Hundreds and thousands of commercials
Bombarding the mind with noise and noise,
Some boring and highly controversial
The rest aimed at girls and never boys,

No social comment, no intellectual thought
Is this why the humble television was bought?
Instead become just another one caught
In a life that has rapidly become too short.

Watching, staring, unblinking
At the screen without actually thinking,
Feeling a tear hitting my lip
All I need now is a good long kip.
